The DataDyno™,
Your Automated Remote Testing Solution!
Regression testing is repetitive and can be tedious...
...that is, unless you have the right tools.
Fig. 1 - The DataDyno™ - test your devices remotely, easily, and cheaply!
Maximizing your testing efforts means automating repetitive tests.
Test case automation keeps your team focused by taking away the mundane
testing tasks, allowing each person to focus on new test cases and test results analysis.

There are a number of companies who provide hardware test case automation
tools. Most of these tools, however, require complex programs
and test case automation developers.
The DataDyno is different. It gives you the power of a full featured test case automation
tool without the complexity.
Furthermore, you can use the
DataDyno remotely because it doesn't require a computer to operate.
Simply insert the SD card into the DateDyno, press the START/STOP
button, and the test case will execute, and will store your results
on the SD card.
You don't even need to develop an executable or use complicated
and expensive software to develop your test script. All
scripts are in CSV format and can be created using a text editor or
spreadsheet tool such as Microsoft Excel.
This is because the DataDyno was developed through a
collaborative effort between Triex Technologies (a leader in custom test equipment
development for companies such as Microsoft) and The Quality Factory.

DataDyno™ Remote Tester Virtual Tour
Below are some of the most popular features of the DataDyno. Click
on the thumbnail image of each feature to expand the image:
 | What is the DataDyno™? |
| The DataDyno™ is an incredibly easy to use remote testing tool. It enables companies with small development budgets to dramatically improve the quality of their hardware products by implementing automated regression and stress tests without the expense of a test and test tool development team. |
|
 | How does it Work? |
| The DataDyno works by reading a file that is stored on an SD card to setup a test sequence. This file, which is stored in simple .CSV format, specifies which outputs are to be turned on/off at any given time, and samples all of the inputs every 10ms. The results are stored in an output file on the SD card for later analysis. |
|
 | What do I need to get Started? |
| What makes the DataDyno™ different from other remote testing products is that it is so easy to setup and use, while maintaining the capabilities of more expensive and complex remote testing systems. All you need is the DataDyno, a probe kit, and a text editor or Microsoft Excel. That’s it! |
|
 | Participate in the DataDyno BETA |
| Through June, 2009, The Quality Factory will be making a limited quantity of Requirements Evaluator DataDyno Remote Testing devices available to BETA participants. These BETA participants will not only receive the DataDyno at $100.00 off the list price, but will also enjoy the benefits of additional support (including telephone, email, and even onsite support for select BETA customers). |
|
 | How many IOs does the DataDyno™ Have? |
| The DataDyno™ comes in two flavors. The DataDyno™ 1000 comes with eight (8) digital IO/Relay channels, four (4) analog inputs whereas the DataDyno™ 1500 comes with external RAM, sixteen (16) digital IO/Relay channels, twelve (12) analog inputs,. Both devices feature two (2) analog outputs, and two (2) clock outputs as well as one external input trigger and one external output trigger. |
|
 | Digital Inputs and Outputs |
| The DataDyno comes with up to 16 digital IOs (DataDyno 1500) that are configured to enable both digital input/output operation and relay operation. Each digital IO can be independently controlled and configured as an input or an output. |
|
 | Analog Inputs and Outputs |
| The DataDyno comes equipped with up to twelve (12), 12-bit analog inputs (DataDyno 1500). Each analog input can handle an input voltage of between zero (0) and twelve (12) volts. Furthermore, the DataDyno comes with two (2) 12-bit analog outputs also capable of outputting between zero (0) and twelve (12) volts. |
|
 | User Interfaces |
| The goal behind the DataDyno is to promote simplicity while giving the functionality that you need to execute your tests quickly and effectively. Therefore, the user interface has been designed to provide you with all of the information that you need, without the complex UI often associated with such equipment. The LEDs provide you with a status of the IOs and of the system while the start button lets you manage the execution of your test. The DataDyno’s front-facing user interfaces include the connectors that manage all of the IO functions. These include the relays interfaces, the digital IO interfaces, the analog inputs, analog outputs, triggers, and the clock and timers inputs and outputs. |
|
 | Triggering |
| There are two external BNC triggering ports. The START button is a momentary switch that may be used to start the execution of the script. The TRIGGER INPUT is a rising edge external TTL trigger that triggers the start of script execution by bypassing the START button. The TRIGGER OUTPUT is a rising edge TTL trigger that triggers at the beginning of each designated script line. |
|
 | Status LED Display |
| The STATUS LED DISPLAY is a three-part display that gives you the overall status of the script and DataDyno. It includes a READY LED that indicates that the DataDyno is currently in the IDLE state and is ready to execute a script. The ACTIVE LED indicates that a script is currently being executed, and the POWER LED indicates whether power is applied to the unit. |
|
 | Relay Status LED Display |
| When any given RELAY STATUS LED is lit (ON), it indicates that the respective relay channel is currently connected (i.e. the relay’s switch is closed). The two corresponding RELAY IO lines will thus be effectively shorted through the relay in question. |
|
 | I/O Status LEDs |
| When any given IO STATUS LED is lit (ON), it indicates that the respective IO channel is currently active (HIGH) or is being actively used as an input. All IO lines are active HIGH and are TTL compatible. If the IO STATUS LED is OFF, then the IO line is currently inactive (LOW) and is passively pulled-down to ground. |
|
 | Rear-Facing User Interfaces |
| The DataDyno’s rear-facing user interfaces include all of the functions and features that are generally accessed infrequently such as the power switch, USB port, SD card slot, and power port. |
|
 | Power Switch |
| The power switch applies power to the unit, whether from the 9V batteries, or from the external power supply. |
|
 | USB Interface |
| When connected to host PC, the USB interface acts much like a USB flash drive and enables the user to read and write to the SD card directly. In addition, the USB interface allow a PC to control all IO functions directly through API calls to the DataDyno. |
|
 | SD Card Slot |
| One of the DataDyno’s unique patent-pending features is the SD card holds script files and records log files, both in CSV format. Through this specialized technique of managing test data, the DataDyno is truly a “remote” tester and can be installed without the need for a computer or controlling device. |
|
 | 18v DC Power Source |
| The DataDyno uses an 18V DC power source with a 500mA current limit. This power source enables the 0-12V analog input and output operation and makes the DataDyno usable in automotive and industrial applications. |
|
 | 9v Battery Operation |
| When external power is not available, the DataDyno can operate on two 9V batteries. |
|
 | Future DataDyno Releases |
| Once the BETA phase is complete, the DataDyno will be undergoing a refresh based-on the feedback provided by our BETA customers. This refresh will include a new injection-molded case, top-side LED light panel strip, and other enhancements. Stay tuned for updates! |
